Thank You!

This is a page to thank everyone who have helped and supported me to be able to do this up to now (This page will grow throughout the year no doubt).

  • First of all, thanks to Rachael for agreeing to blow this joint and go out there and do this with me! x
  • Thanks to both of our families and extended Families for your support (both financial and emotional) and all of your advice, assistance and knowledge in helping us plan this out.
  • Thanks to Andy for buying us the tickets from NZ to Australia for Xmas!
  • Thanks to Margaret for buying our backpacks and starting us off with some NZ currency to get us going!
  • Thanks to Jason, Mick and April for their extensive travel and camping knowledge and setting us up with some great travel gifts (the Microfiber towels are amazing and seem to be made of magic!)
  • Thanks to my mum and dad for the Xmas cash to help us get going…and just for being brilliant and doing the usual parental worrying!
  • Thanks to my sister and Thom for putting us up when we were technically homeless!
  • Thanks to Mick, April, Margaret, Mike, Dan and Louise who also housed the homeless and helped the week up to the flight (Thanks Dan and Louise also for the NZ Xmas cash! – We bought ourselves a meal with a mountainside view!)
  • Thanks to Mass, Kev, Gaz, Doyle, Joe and Caro for the much needed travel advice!
  • Thanks to Grace for being able to make everyone happy!
  • Thanks to Rach and Steve who kindly gave us some NZ cash with the proviso ‘I don’t care what you spend it on as long as it’s extravagant!’ :-)
  • Thanks to all the guys at work who also got us some vouchers to fill our backpacks with some useful travel essentials and put some walking shoes on my feet. Thanks also for the touching, SQL engraved, compass, “So you can find your way back” :-)
  • Thanks also to you guys who gave me some great advice and recommendations :-)
  • Thanks to Kathy and Luci who gave us the most welcoming and softest landing into the country. The glass of wine, shower and the bed was the most welcome sight I’d seen in a long time after that 60 hour journey!
  • Thanks to Bas and Corn for looking after us and lending us a car while we were staying in Tauranga
  • Thanks to Stu and Annemieke for giving us a (beautiful) home to stop in while we were visiting your beautiful town…even though we have never met in person!
  • Thanks to Mass for sorting out our landing and accommodation when flying into Sydney, and for also sorting me out when I returned a month later. Was brilliant catching up, as always….let’s not make it another 2 years before we do it again!
  • Thanks to Christian and the guys at BJJGlobetrotters, for getting in touch and sending all the sponsorship gear and contacts :-)
  • Thanks to Wicked Campers for being the only rental company who allowed our road trip to happen. And for giving us one of the less offensive vans!
  • Thanks to ‘The Gang’ for adopting me in Brisbane!
  • Thanks to Robert, who took the jump with me in our first Matsurfing adventure. For putting me up, putting up with me, showing me around and all the training, rolls and chats we had throughout the week.
  • Thanks to Kev for the couch and the good times in Manila!
  • Thanks to Kev and Ian for sharing the journey, the time and the drinks in Boracay!
  • Thanks to the El Nido Cab drivers for allowing me to play chess with them and hog their board to pass the time for a few hours.
  • Thanks to Dan, Linda, Connor, Ryan, and Grahame for making me feel so welcome in Koahsiung! Sorting me out with a hostel, a scooter, some awesome training, and some great company in and out of the gym! Thanks also to all the guys at Kaohsiung BJJ for allowing me to train for my quick week-long stop and for some good times at the bars :-)
  • Thanks to Jasmin, Andrea, and Lorenzo, for helping to work out a plan to get in and climb the Sathorn Unique ‘Ghost Tower’
  • Thanks to the Monk, who gave me a private lesson in meditation at the Chiang Mai Train station
  • Thanks to Xthai, Quan, and Jan for the chats and beers in the cornerstore in Luang Prabang
  • Thanks to the kids at Big Brother Mouse for teaching me about Hmong culture in exchange for a chat in English
  • Thanks to Mama San, Monkey, and the rest of the San family for hosting me in their home in Sapa. The food was amazing! The ‘happy water’, not so much :-)
  • Thanks to Ian (again) for the good times in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, and to Jonathan and Rebecca also….shared a sunsrise in Angkor Wat…although it was the bar and not the temple!
  • Thanks to Kamille for sharing a bit of the journey in Kampot……and the first visit to (K)asualty so far ;-)
  • Thanks to Ren for showig me around KL in Malaysia. Sharing his BJJ knowledge…and more importantly, his food knowledge!
  • Thanks to Bruno, Ben, and all the guys at Monarchy MMA. Brlliant and really tough training for the solid week that I was there.

  • Thanks to the Ramshackle Skateboard Crew for the drinks and Kareoke Session in Guangzhou
  • Thanks to Jing Yi, for the food recomendations, the chats, and showing me around in Yangshou :-)
  • Thanks to Water and his students for my first outdoor rock climbing experience…and basically keeping me alive that day!
  • Thanks to the FireNomads Theatre Performance crew who allowed us to hang out with them for a few days in Lijiang. Good entertainment, good music, good beers. Thanks for the impromptu yoga lesson also :-)
  • Thanks to Lee for sharing a massive part of the journey thoughout China. Having some very random nights in the Chinese countryside, sneaking in and camping on the Great wall, and basically making me laugh every day for about 3 weeks straight :-)
  • Thanks to Maio for putting me up in Shanghai, and sharing some beers, food and stories :-)
  • Thanks to Jing Yi (again), for becoming my teacher in busking life, and sharing the time in Penang.
  • Thanks to everyone I saw over the short stop back in the UK, for the catch ups, company, conversations, giving me a roof for the night, and sharing some Xmas food or a drink or 2
  • Thanks to Mass, for sharing an amazing month doing a 2000k bike trip through India!

……to be continued……always…..
